# Can I Use a Honda or Predator Engine on My Cyclone Rake?

We often get asked if a different engine—like a Honda or Predator—can be used on a Cyclone Rake. The short answer is: **we don’t recommend it**, and here’s why.

Our engines aren’t just any small engine—they’re **custom-built Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engines**, specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Cyclone Rake system.

#### Custom Shaft Design—Not Off-the-Shelf

- Cyclone Rake engines feature a **1" diameter keyed shaft with a 3" reveal**, engineered to position the impeller exactly where it needs to sit in the blower housing.
- Many third-party engines in the 5–7 HP range—like Honda or Predator models—come with a **¾" shaft**, which is not compatible.
- We **strongly advise against using a sleeve** to adapt a ¾" shaft to 1". It may look like a quick fix, but it can cause serious issues with alignment, vibration, and long-term durability.
