Repairing Your Cyclone Rake Collector Bag

Prev Next

When you're out there cleaning up your property with your Cyclone Rake, the collector bag does a lot of heavy lifting. Over time, you might notice some wear and tear on this hardworking part of your equipment. Here's what you need to know about making repairs:

For Small Tears on the Sides

The Cyclone Rake Fabric Repair Kit is perfect for patching up minor tears and holes on the sides of your collector bag. It's a simple, effective solution that will extend the life of your equipment.

The Fabric Repair Kit includes:

  • 6" x 18" Fabric Patch

  • Patching Tape

  • Alcohol Pads (2)

  • Tube of Vinyl Adhesive

We have 2 kits available depending on the color collector you own:

  • Black Cloth Collector Repair Kit

  • Green Cloth Collector Repair Kit

Sewing Option for Clean Tears

If the tear in your bag is fairly clean and straight:

  • You can sew the bag using heavy button thread, carpet thread, or heavy test fishing line

  • Pinch the fabric together from the outside

  • Sew a loop stitch along the tear

  • When finished, the inside will be nice and smooth, preventing debris from catching on the repair

For Side Tube Pocket Damage

The side tube pockets are a bit trickier:

  • The standard fabric repair kit isn't substantial enough for these high-stress areas

  • You can try a DIY repair using heavy-duty fishing line to sew the tear closed

  • Make sure to reinforce your stitching as these areas bear significant weight

Re-attaching Velcro Strips

If the Velcro strips have come loose from your collector bag:

  • Any type of vinyl adhesive will work well for reattachment

  • Check whether your strip is single or double-stitched to determine the best repair approach

  • For a more durable repair, you can use high-test fishing line to sew the strip back on

  • If you're not comfortable with the sewing, a local leather or shoe repair shop can usually help with this type of repair

When to Replace Your Collector Bag

Consider a full replacement when:

  • Damage is extensive across multiple areas

  • DIY repairs aren't holding up under normal use

  • Your bag is showing multiple signs of wear and aging

  • Safety or performance is compromised

FAQ

Why does the patch need to be installed against the PVC lining?

The adhesive included in your Repair Kit is PVC Cement, not true PVC "glue". PVC Cement works by breaking down the chemical structure of the PVC, so it bonds together and becomes inseparable. This is why the patch must be installed against the PVC lining.
