As electric mowers gain popularity, we frequently receive questions about their compatibility with Cyclone Rake systems. While it is possible to connect a Cyclone Rake to some electric mowers, there are several important factors to consider before attempting this combination.
Compatibility Challenges
Electric mowers present unique compatibility challenges with our Cyclone Rake systems:
Single-Pin Limitation: Most electric mowers can only accommodate a single-pin hitch connection. With the battery typically located at the rear of the mower, there is no mounting point for our standard dual-pin hitch beyond the manufacturer-installed single-pin option.
Mower Deck Adaptation: We currently do not have templates for mower deck openings specific to electric mowers. While our standard Mower Deck Adapter (MDA) is available for purchase, it will need to be modified to fit the specific dimensions and configuration of your electric mower.
Weight Considerations: The Cyclone Rake adds significant weight that many electric mowers aren't designed to handle:
Tongue weight: 85-95 pounds
Classic model (our lightest): 200 pounds when empty
Additional weight when filled with debris
Impact on Electric Mower Performance
When towing a Cyclone Rake, electric mowers typically experience:
Significantly reduced battery life and operating time
Increased strain on the motor and drive system
Limited power for effective collection, especially with wet or heavy debris
Potential overheating issues during extended use
Safety and Performance Recommendations
If you're considering using an electric mower with a Cyclone Rake, we recommend:
Check Manufacturer Guidelines:
Verify maximum towing capacity
Review warranty implications
Understand operating limitations
Evaluate Practical Factors:
Property size and terrain
Expected runtime needs
Total weight to be towed
Available battery capacity
Consider Alternatives:
Our CRS (Cyclone Rake Single) models are designed specifically for single-pin applications, though performance limitations with electric mowers still apply
Important Note
Due to these limitations, we generally do not recommend using Cyclone Rake with electric mowers. The combination often results in suboptimal performance and could potentially damage your mower.
