Can I Use a Honda or Predator Engine on My Cyclone Rake?

Prev Next

We often get asked if a different engineβ€”like a Honda or Predatorβ€”can be used on a Cyclone Rake. The short answer is: we don’t recommend it, and here’s why.

Our engines aren’t just any small engineβ€”they’re custom-built Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engines, specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Cyclone Rake system.

Custom Shaft Designβ€”Not Off-the-Shelf

  • Cyclone Rake engines feature a 1" diameter keyed shaft with a 3" reveal, engineered to position the impeller exactly where it needs to sit in the blower housing.

  • Many third-party engines in the 5–7 HP rangeβ€”like Honda or Predator modelsβ€”come with a ΒΎ" shaft, which is not compatible.

  • We strongly advise against using a sleeve to adapt a ΒΎ" shaft to 1". It may look like a quick fix, but it can cause serious issues with alignment, vibration, and long-term durability.

Why We Stick With Briggs & Stratton Vanguard

  • These engines are built for rugged, high-performance use, perfect for handling more than just leavesβ€”think twigs, pine cones, even the occasional acorn surprise.

  • They’ve been our standard since 1997, and we’re still supporting machines that went into service back then.

  • The 1" shaft was chosen after thorough testing, and it’s a key part of why our equipment lasts for decades.

Designed for the Cyclone Rakeβ€”and for You

  • From light residential use to tough commercial jobs, our Vanguard engines are up to the task.

  • Some might say we’ve over-engineered the setup. We say we’ve just done it rightβ€”and we’re not changing what works.

Engine Ships Free & Comes Backed by Warranty

  • When you order a replacement engine from us, shipping is always free.

  • Every engine is covered by a manufacturer-backed warranty from Briggs & Stratton. That’s peace of mind you can count on.
