Choosing the Right Mower Blade Configuration for Your Cyclone Rake

A person repairs a lawn mower while showcasing replacement blades nearby.

When setting up your mower to work with your Cyclone Rake, you might wonder about the ideal number and type of blades. Here's what you need to know to get the best performance from your lawn cleanup system.

How Many Blades Do You Need?

The number of blades on your mower deck (2, 3, or 4) is primarily determined by your property size and mowing needs:

  • More blades typically means a wider mower deck

  • Wider decks cover more ground in less time

  • The number of blades doesn't significantly impact Cyclone Rake performance

Rather than focusing on blade quantity, the type of blade makes a much bigger difference in debris collection efficiency.

Recommended Blade Types

While the Cyclone Rake works with most blade configurations, certain types perform noticeably better for debris collection:

  • High-Lift Blades (Bagger Blades): These create the strongest upward airflow, making them ideal for lifting debris off the ground and directing it toward the deck opening. These are the best choice for use with your Cyclone Rake.

  • Regular/Standard Blades: These provide good all-around performance and work well with the Cyclone Rake for most conditions.

  • Gator Blades: These hybrid high-lift mulching blades work reasonably well according to customer feedback, offering a balance of mulching and collection capabilities.

Mulching Blades

Blades to Avoid

  • Mulching Blades: Not recommended for use with the Cyclone Rake. These blades are specifically designed to keep debris circulating under the deck and force it downward into the lawn, which works against the Cyclone Rake's collection purpose.

Maximizing Performance

For the most efficient debris collection with your Cyclone Rake:

  • Consider switching to high-lift blades during heavy leaf season

  • Keep blades sharp for better cutting and lifting

  • Adjust your deck height appropriately for the material you're collecting

No matter how many blades your mower has, choosing the right blade type will have the greatest impact on your Cyclone Rake's collection efficiency.
