How Well Does The Cyclone Rake Work When Mowing Tall Grass?

When tackling tall grass with your Cyclone Rake, you'll be pleased to know that all our models are designed to handle this challenging task effectively.

Performance with Tall Grass

The Cyclone Rake's ability to handle tall grass depends primarily on your mower's cutting capacity, but our vacuum systems are engineered to keep pace with your mower's output. Here are some helpful tips for optimal performance:

  • With smaller Cyclone Rake models (like the Classic or Commander), consider driving at a slightly slower speed when mowing very tall grass to allow sufficient time for debris to move through the system

  • Our larger models (Commercial PRO, XL, and Z-10) can typically handle tall grass at normal mowing speeds

  • Always set your mower deck at an appropriate height for the grass conditionsβ€”sometimes making two passes (first higher, then lower) yields better results with extremely tall grass

Superior Design Prevents Clogging

One of the greatest advantages of the Cyclone Rake is our innovative dual-pin hitch system that connects to the rear of your mower. This thoughtful design provides significant benefits:

  • Creates a rigid mount that enables the straightest, shortest possible path for the deck hose

  • Eliminates unnecessary bends or twists in the hose that can cause blockages

  • Significantly reduces the opportunity for clogging when collecting dense materials like grass clippings

  • Ensures consistent airflow throughout the entire system

Managing Weight When Collecting Grass

Something to keep in mind is that grass clippings are considerably heavier than dry leaves. When primarily collecting grass:

  • You may need to empty the collector bag when it's only about half full

  • The Cyclone Rake's design makes dumping quick and easy

  • For easier unloading, consider our Power Lift Unloader accessory, which makes emptying even easier with the push of a button
