FAQs
Can I add the electric start to my pull-start engine?
Unfortunately, we don't sell an electric starter kit that can be added to a pull-start engine. You may be able to contact Briggs & Stratton to ask if they can retrofit one, but itβs neither simple nor inexpensive. The process would involve disassembling the engine to add a gear to the flywheel, starter motor, wiring, key switch, and battery.
We do offer complete electric start engines, but only for our XL and Z-10 models.
Can I stop the electric start engine with the key?
No. The key is only used to start the engine and does not control ignition. Here's how the switch works:
Position 1 = Normal (key at rest)
Position 2 = Start (spring-loaded; used only while cranking)
To stop the engine:
Idle it down for 15 to 30 seconds using the throttle lever.
Move the red fuel shutoff lever to the OFF position.
Remove the key.
The key cannot be turned to the left like a car ignitionβit doesnβt disconnect the engine.
Can I remove the key from the electric start engine once itβs running?
Yes, once your engine is started, the key can be removed and the engine will keep running. Just make sure to keep the key somewhere safeβlike your pocketβso it doesnβt get lost.
