Identifying Your Cyclone Rake Model (Used & Older Units)

Prev Next

If you’ve got a used Cyclone Rakeβ€”or you’re not sure which model you haveβ€”this guide will help you figure it out. Whether your unit is from 2006 or 2022, we’ve outlined the key clues to look for. We’ve also included a helpful section on retired models for folks with older equipment.

Why Identifying Your Model Matters

Knowing your Cyclone Rake model makes a big difference when it comes to ordering parts, accessories, or upgrades. Here's why:

  • Not all parts fit all models. Even if two models look similar, they may use different hoses, blowers, or collector bags.

  • Correct info = fewer hassles. You’ll save time (and avoid returns) by knowing your exact model.

  • It helps our support team help you faster.

Section 1: How to Identify Your Cyclone Rake Model

These steps apply to any unitβ€”whether it’s lightly used, passed down, or decades old.

1. Ask the Previous Owner (If You Can)

If you bought your unit secondhand, the original owner may still have records. If it was purchased directly from us, we may be able to look it up in our system.

2. Check These Visual Clues

Here’s what to look at on your machine:

βœ… Collector Bag Color & Shape

  • Green Bag: Typically found on Classic, Commander, and PRO units.

  • Black Bag: Usually marks a Commercial or Commercial PRO model.

  • Tapered Shape (wider at the rear): A hint that it's a PRO, Commander, or JetPath unit.

  • Straight Shape: Often used on older Standard and Commercial models.

βœ… Hose Size (Measure the Deck Hose)

  • Measure the inside diameter of the hose from your mower deck to the blower.

    • 7-inch hose: Used on most Classic, Commander, PRO, and earlier models.

    • 8-inch hose: Found on Commander PRO and Commercial PRO JetPath units.

    • 10-inch hose: Rareβ€”specific to the Z-10 model.

βœ… Engine Brand & Horsepower

  • Look for a label near the recoil starter or blower housing.

  • Tecumseh engines were used before 2005 and are now discontinued.

  • Later units often feature Briggs & Stratton or Vanguard engines:

    • 6.0 HP: Usually a PRO or Commander.

    • 7.0 HP: Generally a Commercial or Commercial PRO.

    • More than 9 HP: May point to the XL or Z-10 model.

βœ… Take Photos

  • Snap pictures of the engine, collector, hose, and blower housing.

  • Our team can usually identify the model from a few clear photos.

Frequently Asked Questions About Older Models

Q: What if my unit has a Tecumseh engine?
A: Tecumseh stopped production in 2009, so parts are limited. We may recommend replacing the engine with a modern equivalent if it's no longer working properly.

Q: What does JetPath mean?
A: JetPath units use an 8-inch hose system that improves airflow and clog resistanceβ€”these were mainly used on the Commander PRO and Commercial PRO.

Q: Can I still get parts for an older unit?
A: In many cases, yes! A lot of older units can accept newer replacement parts. Let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll do our best to match you up.
