Setting your mower deck at the right height is crucial for getting the best performance from your Cyclone Rake. The proper deck height helps "activate" debris so your Cyclone Rake can efficiently vacuum it up.
Recommended Deck Height Settings
For most applications, we recommend setting your mower's deck height between 3" to 6". This range provides an ideal balance between:
Getting underneath debris to lift it
Creating enough airflow to move material into the collector
Protecting your lawn from scalping
Ensuring efficient collection
Adjusting for Different Types of Debris
For Low-Lying Debris (Pine Needles, Nuts, Seeds)
You may need to lower your deck slightly to "stir up" these materials
Start at the middle of the recommended range and lower 1-2 notches if needed
The goal is to get this debris off the ground and into the airflow
For Leaves and Regular Yard Debris
A medium height setting usually works well
Adjust based on the volume and density of materials
Higher settings work well for light, dry leaves
Lower settings may be better for wet, matted leaves
Troubleshooting Collection Issues
If debris isn't being picked up effectively, check these factors:
Deck Height: Too high and the debris won't be disturbed; too low and you might be creating too much drag
Engine Throttle: Ensure your Cyclone Rake engine is running at full throttle
Travel Speed: You may be driving too fastβslow down to allow time for proper collection
Debris Type: Very wet or matted debris might require multiple passes
Adjusting for Peak Performance
Every property and debris situation is unique. Take the time to experiment with different height settings to determine what works best for your specific conditions. With a little practice, you'll find the ideal configuration for maximum efficiency.
