What’s the Black Wire Hanging from My Briggs & Stratton Engine?

Prev Next

If you’ve noticed a black wire with a little white or translucent cap hanging loose from the engine on your Cyclone Rake, don’t worryβ€”it’s completely normal.

On all Briggs & Stratton engines, this black wire is a ground wire that the manufacturer includes for other equipment applications. For the Cyclone Rake, it’s not connected to anything and doesn’t serve a function.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • The wire is safe as-is. As long as the small translucent cap stays in place over the tip, you can ignore it.

  • If the cap comes off: The bare wire could touch the engine block, which would prevent the engine from starting. This is rare, but if it happens, simply cover the wire tip again to solve the problem.

So, if you see that wire dangling, it’s not a defect or something missingβ€”it’s just a part of the engine design that isn’t needed for your Cyclone Rake.
