Preventing 036 MDA Boot Flaring: Proper Bracket Installation

When installing your Mower Deck Adapter (MDA), it's important to get the bracket placement just right. If you've noticed the bottom of your 036 MDA boot flaring away from your mower deck, the most likely cause is that the mounting brackets have been installed on the wrong sides.

Here's how to identify and correctly position your brackets:

  • JD42A Deck Riser (#01-01-1993) - This bracket should be mounted on the left side of your deck opening. You can easily identify it by the oval-shaped head on its spacer.

  • CC45 Support Bracket (#01-01-1660) - This bracket belongs on the right side of your deck opening. Look for the square-shaped head on its spacer to confirm you've got the right one.

The image below shows the proper positioning of the JD42A bracket during installation:

When these brackets are reversed, the MDA boot tends to flare outward at the bottom, pulling away from the deck opening. This misalignment puts unnecessary strain on the boot material, which could eventually lead to cracking. Taking a moment to double-check your bracket placement can save you from potential frustration and keep your Cyclone Rake performing at its best for years to come.
